2 Day Training on Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is a heavily researched, evidence-based form of therapy designed to treat children who have experienced a traumatic event and struggle with subsequent emotional and/or behavioral problems. The model treats children with an array of trauma histories, including children with multiple and complex traumas in their lives. This course is designed for mental health professionals who work with children who have experienced trauma. It is an intermediate-level course.
Participants must practice in one of the 24 BHARP counties of the North Central Contract.

Requirements for attending:
- Participants must have a master’s degree in a human service field.
- Participants must practice in one of the 24 BHARP counties of the North Central Contract.
- Participants must complete a TF-CBT workshop at tfcbt2.musc.edu before the training. The cost is $35.

Kristine Buffington, MSW, LISW-S
Ms. Buffington is a national trainer in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy under the direction of Judith Cohen, MD and Anthony Mannarino, Ph.D., and Esther Deblinger, the developers of this treatment model.

Training Goal:
To provide educational and practice experiences that will prepare Master’s level therapists to practice Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Training Objectives:
Participants in this training will be able to:
- Describe the nature of the research that supports the efficacy of TF-CBT.
- Understand key issues related to model fidelity and inclusionary and exclusionary criteria for TF-CBT.
- Recognize the importance of respectful and empowering client engagement in the treatment process.
- Understand the rationale behind each TF-CBT component and be able to use at least 3 tools or strategies for each of the model’s components

The Meadows Psychiatric Center is a provider of inpatient behavioral healthcare to children, adolescents, and adults and is an approved sponsor provider for continuing education to the State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors.
